The new Campus KID schools complex, an educational centre for children aged 6-14, is situated at the foot of the hills on the south-eastern boundary of the municipality of San Lazzaro di Savena (Bologna). This location makes it a significant element that connects the town of San Lazzaro with the surrounding area, and responds to the fragmentation of a locality where various types of services and buildings coexist.

Mario Cucinella unveils “Building Green Futures” at the World Urban Forum in Naples

“Providing access to modern sources of energy and comfortable living conditions for people in need through green buildings and smart micro-grids”: this is the ambitious goal of “Building Green Futures”, an innovative non-profit organization launched by the Italian architect Mario Cucinella at the World Urban Forum in Naples.

The newly established organization was presented on Sept 3rd at a dedicated event attended by representatives of UN Habitat, UNESCO, UNRWA, civil society organizations, private sector companies and academic institutions.

“The problem we are up against is that buildings consume more than one third of global natural resources, while over a billion people live in slums, most of them in developing countries” said Cucinella during his presentation. “Green Buildings and clean technologies can be the solutions to this problem. Both are affordable and sustainable means to enable universal access to water, modern sources of energy, and development opportunities, while ensuring the protection of our natural resources for generations to come. Building Green Futures is about mobilizing architects, private companies, governments and development agencies towards these goals.”
