RMJM recently finished a proposal for the Fifth Building of the Moravian-Silesian Innovation Center’s (MSIC) technological park, located in Ostrava. The innovation centre building will be made up of five floors and will house laboratories, test areas, 2,000sqm of office space, and one level of underground parking.

The concept for Fifth Building is inspired by various elements that feature in the design of a local, traditional castle. RMJM Prague Chief Architect, Luca Aldrighi, has created a modern interpretation of this design and has focussed on safety, accessibility, and water. Additionally, the dome-like structure of the building is a representation of the MSIC site and has been designed to seamlessly integrate with the rolling hills that surround it.

Fifth Building will set a benchmark in the area for sustainable and innovative design, inside and out. Upon entrance to the lobby, employees and visitors will be greeted by a lush green interior which is aimed at improving indoor air quality and the overall aesthetic of the Moravian-Silesian Innovation Center development – creating an inspiring environment for all. This has been incorporated as a result of a study by NASA which lists several plant types that assist with combating indoor pollution in a safe and natural way. However, sustainability efforts don’t stop there.

A water filtration system has also been incorporated into the design and will see rainwater and greywater being collected and reused in an effort to reduce costs and water waste. Additional efforts include PV panels on the iconic roof, chargers for electric vehicles, and TX Active Cement.

Aldrighi says that he is delighted to be working with MSIC and feels that their principles directly align with RMJM’s. “The presentation of this project was very well-received, and after further discussions with the decision-makers, I am confident that this is the beginning of a positive, long-standing relationship. I look forward to seeing how this project progresses,” he added.
