Faithful+Gould Awarded Arabian Canal

Faithful+Gould in the Middle East has been appointed by Limitless to provide Cost Management Services for the Arabian Canal Development – a project of epic proportions that is set to shape the new Dubai.

This 75 kilometre man-made waterway will flow inland from Dubai Waterfront, passing to the east of the new Dubai World Central International Airport before turning back towards Palm Jumeirah. Up to 150 metres wide and six metres deep, the canal offers a new potential transportation network in Dubai for recreational and commercial boats up to 40 metres long. In addition to the $11 billion waterway itself, a new $50 billion waterfront development will cover 20,000 hectares along the canal's southern flank. This will form a focal point for Dubai's cultural attractions and community events and will include a mixed use element with marinas, residential communities and business centres.

“Faithful+Gould is honoured to be part of this ambitious project and continuing our working relationship with Limitless. We provided initial high level cost management services for the Arabian Canal project, and are now working with Limitless on their portion of the infrastructure for the surrounding development” says David Stapleton, Regional Director for Faithful+Gould in the Middle East.

Increasing the Dubai beachfront from 45 km to an impressive 1500 km has become a priority, largely through the construction of artificial islands. Lack of space has prompted further innovative thinking: the canal project contributes more waterfront, making the surrounding development a more inviting prospect.

The challenging element of this project, says David Stapleton are the logistics. To keep the canal at sea level, one billion cubic metres of material will have to be excavated to a depth of 70 metres.

Faithful+Gould is also providing cost management services for the infrastructure of International City Phases two and three, infrastructure and MX Buildings for Downtown Jebel Ali Phases one to four, the F1 Theme Park at MotorCity, two of the ‘World’ islands, and project and programme management services for the ongoing Jumeirah Lakes Towers project.
