"Reiach and Hall are the competition-winning architects for the University of St Andrew’s new Medical Science building. On a greenfield site, adjacent to a conservation area, the new building commands the entrance to the North Haugh campus. Seen by the University as a world-leading facility to attract students and academics from around the globe, the building - now lodged for planning permission - consists of Café/Social/foyer, Clinical Skills, Lecture Theatre facilities, Small Group Teaching, Offices, Anatomy & Teaching Laboratories for Medicine, Biology & Chemistry, Medical Research facility plus an Imaging department. The design investigates the masterplanning issues for the North Haugh campus as a whole. Replacing the existing idea of ‘’pavilion’’ development by ‘infilling’ the sites between these ‘object’ buildings has repaired the disjointed nature of the existing site. This resulted in the University changing its choice of site enabling more efficient development and better departmental connections. Our strategic approach has consolidated the University’s development initiatives to structure a planned approach to future projects. The building complies with the University’s Environmental Policy alongside compliance with the Statutory Authorities Requirements (PAN 51), Lab 21 and good practice guides."
